Masseter Botox
What is Masseter (Teeth Clenching) Treatment?
Masseter treatment is an effective injection therapy applied to reduce teeth clenching (bruxism) and teeth grinding that occur unconsciously during sleep or throughout the day, while also slimming the jawline. The masseter muscle is located on the side of the jawbone and is one of the most active muscles during chewing. Overactivity of this muscle can lead to a square facial appearance aesthetically and cause significant jaw pain.
Why Does the Masseter Muscle Enlarge?
Masseter muscle enlargement is usually related to overuse. Habits such as clenching teeth at night, applying pressure to the jaw during the day due to stress, or chewing hard foods for many years increase the muscle volume. Genetic predisposition can also cause the muscle to appear larger than normal in some individuals. An enlarged masseter gradually gives the face a more masculine and angular appearance.
Aesthetic and Medical Benefits of Masseter Treatment
Overactive masseter muscles can lead to morning jaw stiffness, head and facial pain, temporomandibular joint (TMJ) problems, tooth wear, and jaw grinding. The treatment reduces excessive muscle activity, relieving stress on the jaw joint and significantly decreasing pain.
From an aesthetic perspective, masseter treatment slims the lower face, creating a more refined, elegant, and balanced jawline. In women, it softens a square jaw, giving a more feminine appearance. In men, it balances the jawline and improves facial symmetry.
How is Masseter Treatment Applied?
Before the procedure, the jaw area is cleaned with antiseptic, and local anesthetic cream is applied if needed. Three specific points of the masseter muscle are marked without affecting mimic muscles. Fine needles are used to inject the toxin into the deep muscle fibers. The procedure takes approximately 8–10 minutes, and patients can immediately return to daily activities.
When Do the Effects of Masseter Treatment Begin?
The effects on the muscle are usually felt within about 3 days after injection. Full results appear within 10–15 days. As the muscle gradually applies less force, both teeth clenching reduces and visible slimming of the jawline occurs. The timing of noticeable effects varies by individual but is generally completed within the first 2 weeks.
How Long Does Masseter Treatment Last?
The effect typically lasts 4–6 months. For aesthetic purposes, the duration may extend up to 6 months, while in bruxism treatment, it may need to be repeated every 3–4 months. Regular sessions help gradually reduce muscle volume and extend treatment longevity.

However, it may not be suitable for pregnant or breastfeeding women, individuals with neuromuscular disorders, or those with certain chronic conditions.
Are There Side Effects of Masseter Treatment?
When administered in correct doses by a specialist, serious side effects are not expected. Rarely, temporary difficulty chewing or slight muscle weakness may occur; these effects are completely temporary. Mild redness or bruising at the injection site may appear and disappear within a few days.
Does Masseter Treatment Affect Eating?
When injected correctly, it does not interfere with eating. The treatment aims to regulate excessive and uncontrolled muscle activity, not to stop chewing function. Daily functions are preserved while reducing harmful pressure and clenching behavior.
